Camaraderie is the point.

We need each other.

As we so often see when we are faced with tragedy,  the only way we get through anything is together. We need each other.

The devastating fires in LA, of course, remind me of my own experience with losing everything to a fire and it also reminds me of how that experience was my first taste of the power of community, as Ambler rallied around me 18 years ago.

The unimaginable amount of loss we are seeing in LA (and really across the world in the many instances of climate crisis, war and other injustices) can trigger our own traumas and activate our own unprocessed grief,  both of which compound over time. It’s vital we have spaces where we release the tension that builds up, to open up the pressure valve and let it all pour out.

I created Camaraderie to be one of those spaces.

(In yoga, we call conscious community a sangha.)

We’re also just days away from a new administration that will, at the very least, create chaos in the upcoming weeks. And so I’m doing what I know how to do best: creating opportunities for people to come together.

This Sunday, January 19, in addition to our regular classes, we have multiple opportunities to be in community:

1p - Member Class + Photo Shoot - Help us build visual representation of our community.

3p - Feast: Community Potluck - Let’s eat together.

6:30p Sleep + Sound - Because rest is vital.

• More details on all below. Join one or join all. Hell, make a day of it!

On Monday, in honor of MLK Day of Service, we’re volunteering at Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard and are looking for one more community member to join us. Please email me if you are interested.

In the coming days and weeks, may we continue to do what winter asks of us: to rest more + move slowly, to nourish our reserves and  to huddle close to one another for warmth.

And finally, to dream. To dream of the world we want to live in, any maybe even more importantly,  of the world we want to leave our children’s children.

May our dreams inspire us into action. Together.

xx maura
