Yoga is a practice of transformation.

What to expect

At Camaraderie, we teach yoga and other mindbody modalities that differ from modern-day exercise. Yoga is a vast system and discipline that incorporates different methodologies for the students to experience liberation. At its core, yoga is a spiritual practice.

We believe that yoga as a full system is for everybody AND not every style of yoga practice is appropriate for every body. It’s important to find the style (and teacher) that’s right for you! No two classes or teachers at Camaraderie are the same. Our teachers are given creative freedom to express their craft as they see fit while staying within the parameters of their class description so students can know when to expect in regards to pace, level and style. In addition to physical practice, you can expect to find a variety of different methodologies in classes: breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, visualization, chanting and more.

Yoga is a practice of transformation. Trying something new can be wildly uncomfortable. And this can be the case for even the most seasoned yogi. Our teachers are here to support your journey. And while we welcome discomfort in appropriate doses, this type of tension is different from pain.

Pain is a sign to stop. It can be hard to discern between discomfort and pain — trust yourself.

Together, we can find the right practice for you. It’s our promise.

No one is too old or too inflexible (or insert any other reason here) to start yoga. And if we are not the right fit, we happily refer out to other studios. Schedule a 1:1 call with our crew to talk through it.

    • Please remove your shoes before entering the practice space.

    • Leave all personal belongings in your car or in the lobby.

    • We are an unplugged space — no phones in the practice space and this includes turning off smart watches.

    • It is customary to come to practice, if possible, with an empty stomach so you are more comfortable during practice.

    • Once in the practice space, please keep your voices down and be mindful of other students.

    • We help welcome and make space for everyone.

    • No smoking or vaping in the entire space. No food or drink in the practice space.

    • Wear whatever you are most comfortable in. You’ll learn that some practices are more enjoyable with loose fitting clothes, while other practices warrant more form fitting clothes. (Think about doing downward dog with a baggy t-shirt on.)

    • We practice in bare feet but welcome socks and cozy layers for the end of practice or more relaxed practices.

    • Please maintain personal hygiene and come to practice fragrance free.

  • Props are a yogi’s best friend. The teacher will recommend props for practice at the beginning of each class.

Please wipe down your props at the end of practice and return neatly to the shelves.

  • Teachers may offer hands-on assistance in yoga class. We recognize for some touch is healing and for others, touch can be triggering.

Teachers will always ask your permission.

  • We respect students’ right to their own bodies and practice. You know what is best for you. Please modify, take breaks or opt-out of any exercises that may be inappropriate for you. We ask that students communicate directly with the teacher before class in regards to any injuries, illnesses or recent surgeries so the teacher can suggest best practices for safety.

It’s important to let teachers know if you are pregnant, as well, so specific modifications can be made.

  • Often considered the most important part of practice, savasana is final relaxation at the end of yoga practice.

Please do not leave in the middle of savasana. This will disrupt other’s experiences. If you are uncomfortable, find a position that works best for you or come to sit quietly.

  • We offer props and chairs for yoga practice. Many of our teachers are trained in accessible practices, including trauma-informed care, and can accommodate different needs.  If you have specific needs or are seeking a specific practice please, connect us with us directly for recommendations.

Unfortunately, we do not have an accessible bathroom. Our friends at Aloha Smoothie welcome folks that require an accessible bathroom during their open hours.

  • We are conveniently located next to the Community Parking Lot. Weekdays are free from 12-2pm. Sundays and everyday after 6pm are always free (including the reserved spots). One dollar buys you 1 hour of parking on all meters.  You can pay for up to 2 hours with either coins or the Flowbird APP on your smart phone.

  • For regular classes, you can cancel yourself at anytime. We do not currently have a ‘late cancel’ fee. To cancel, log-in to your account and head to My Registrations (under account or the person icon). Cancellations for events differ from event to event.

  • Our virtual options provide more access to classes based on your own schedule, desire to practice at-home or while traveling and in a more affordable way. Full details here.

FAQs

Starting a yoga practice can be uncomfortable. And while we believe that yoga is for everybody, not every style of yoga is appropriate for every body. It’s important to find the style (and teacher) that’s right for you.

What is yoga?

Yoga is a traditional practice that originated in India thousands of years ago. It is a vast system and discipline that incorporates different methodologies for the practitioners to experience liberation. In modern times (today), yoga is often the blanket term for practicing yoga postures (asana) but this is just one aspect of yoga. Lifestyle, diet, energy practices, concentration and meditation are all a part of this holistic and integrative approach. Yoga postures and breathwork are intended to open the body and clear the mind in preparation for meditation and union with the divine.

At its core, yoga is a spiritual practice that recognizes the sacredness and interconnectedness of all life and beings. Yoga calls us into action — none of us are free until all of us are free — and reminds us that there is no separation: in mind/body, between you/me, between us/world, in our humanity/divinity.  It is open to people of all faiths, all belief systems, all backgrounds.

Yoga Qs

  • Look at styles like Gentle, QiGong and Foundations. These are the best practices to get you familiar with basic postures and terminology.

Yin and Restorative practices can be great, too — they are very still, so that might be the most uncomfortable piece!

We recommend attending a class 2-3x to find a groove.

  • Look for basic classes so you can get familiar with the poses and lingo — our Foundations class will be the best. Feeling adventurous and what something more vigorous? Hop into a Vinyasa or Slow Flow class. Looking for something more chill to complement your other movement? Try out a yin class — your body will love it! Either way — give it a few tries to find a class that works for you.

  • Welcome back! Take your time easing back into your practice so you don’t get injured. Try one of these classes to reassess where you are: Gentle, Foundations or Yin. Then go from there!

  • Because everything is yoga! The body likes (and needs) to move in different ways. Different styles of movement have different impacts — physically, mentally and energetically. We offer a variety of mindful movement practices to keep the body healthy, expand our minds and break free from patterns and conditioning.

  • The name of the studio is Camaraderie, so YES!  And we promise you’ll live to tell about it. This is part of how we make connections, friends and community as adults! But you’ll also be able to opt-out if you want, too.

I’m interested in attending a workshop, event or retreat but am nervous and don’t know what to expect. Help!

Workshops & Events

  • Great question! Special events are an opportunity for our teachers to dive into different poses, concepts or philosophies that are more complex than we have time for in a regular class.

Many of our events also explore a new place, new food, new people etc for a really rich, transformative experience. And if you’re coming on retreat, I promise you’ll wonder why it took you so long to do something like this for yourself!

  • No! If experience is preferred or required, it will be noted.

  • We are pros at communication and logistics. Anything you need will be shared with you well in advance — from BYOmat to required readings to packing lists, trust you’re in the hands of event experts!

  • Connect with us directly. We do everything we can  to accommodate our students’ needs and 95% of the time this is totally possible. Our community partners have different levels of accessibility so we’ll also be honest with you if it’s not the best event for you.

For example, if you are gluten and dairy-free, a retreat to the Himalayan Institute might be better for you than Italy. But let’s talk about it!

  • Absolutely. Many people do! And, there’s something to be said about coming with  friends. It totally depends on the event.

Looking to study or retreat? This can be awesome solo time to reconnect to yourself.

Want to come to a Treetop Class? The more the merrier when it comes to community events. Ultimately, you do you and either is great!
