Let’s talk about it. Period.

This month, we're launching a special initiative to support The Spot, the nation's first and only menstrual hub + mobile clinic, located in Germantown, PA. The Spot plays a critical role in providing free or affordable menstrual products to those in need. Whether you’re donating period products, supporting through the purchase of specific retail items, or contributing financially, your involvement helps ensure that everyone has access to essential healthcare items like pads, tampons, and menstrual cups.

This month, we aim to achieve three key goals:

1. Educate Our Community About Menstrual Health

Did you know?

  • 1 in 4 teens miss class due to lack of period products.

  • Benefits like SNAP and WIC don't cover period products in PA.

  • In some states, period products are taxed like luxury products, known as the “pink tax.”

It's essential that we improve education about menstrual health and break the stigma around menstruation. This includes making menstruation part of the core curriculum in schools. Menstrual education empowers everyone, regardless of gender, to understand and support the menstrual experiences of others.

We also want to bring more awareness to the ongoing efforts to make menstrual health a priority in health discussions and recognized as vital health sign. Too often, menstruation is overlooked or shamed—together, we can work to change that.

Menstruation is a natural and healthy part of life.

2. Advocate for Period-Friendly Policies in Schools, Workplaces, and Prisons

We need your help to advocate for policies that make menstrual products accessible to everyone. We’re calling for the inclusion of period-friendly policies in schools, workplaces, and prisons. This includes policies that provide free period products for all menstruators, particularly those in vulnerable situations, including young students, low-income individuals, and incarcerated individuals.

Our State Senator representing Ambler, Maria Collett, has been championing menstrual equity since she entered office. She advocated for $3M in the 2024-25 PA Budget to make period products free in public schools and supported her Montgomery County partners in making these products free in county facilities. To continue to make period products available to those who need them most, Senator Collett introduced The Menstrual Equity Act, which would require PA’s public agencies serving those who are young, low-income, homeless, or incarcerated to make period products available at no cost.

The Challenges We Face

While we’ve made significant strides—such as securing $3M in the PA budget for free period products in public schools, providing free period products in Montgomery County restrooms, and free products in Pennsylvania prisons—there is still so much work to be done.

2 in 5 menstruators are still struggling to afford essential period products like pads and tampons, which is why menstrual equity remains an urgent issue. Benefits like SNAP and WIC don’t cover period products, leaving many individuals with no choice but to use unsafe alternatives like rags or to miss school and work altogether.

This injustice and inequity must change. It’s a barrier to health and well-being that disproportionately affects low-income communities, particularly women and girls of color - and it impacts all of us. It’s time to make sure everyone can access the essential healthcare products they need.

Our Call to Action

Together, we can make a difference. Join us this month as we rally behind the work of The Spot and advocate for menstrual equity in Pennsylvania and beyond. With your support, we can help eliminate the stigma around menstruation and ensure that all menstruators have access to the products they need.

Let’s take action to:

  • End the stigma around menstruation - talk about it!

  • Make menstrual products free or affordable, especially in schools, prisons, and workplaces.

  • Advocate for policies that are period-friendly and inclusive.

  • Support menstrual education and awareness.

It’s time to stand together and help close the gap in healthcare that disproportionately affects vulnerable communities.

Menstrual health is a human right, not a luxury.

Every menstruator deserves access to basic healthcare products, no matter their circumstances. Let’s make sure we continue pushing forward for change, ensuring that no one has to go without.

Thank you for your support—whether through donations, advocacy, or simply spreading the word, you are making an impact.
